About N5YT
I have always enjoyed tinkering with electronics. My dad was an active CBer when I was growing up and I was fascinated by all the knobs on his radio and began asking questions about how all of it worked. He bought several of Forrest Mims Mini-Engineering books from Radioshack and gave them to me. One of my first projects was a crystal radio receiver that he and I built for a science fair when I was in the 5th grade.
My first encounter with a ham operator was with Leon, W5NA. Leon was working for the local cable TV company and was driving by our house one day and saw my dad’s two yagi antennas. He asked if a ham lived here and I told him no. He commented on how well the yagis looked and began to tell me about how he talked all over the world with his ham radio. My dad bought me the technician study manual and I passed my Tech exam about a month later and became KC5TYN in 1996 when I was 14.
I became active on the local 2 meter repeater and later upgraded to general, advanced as KM5LM, and then extra as AC5PQ. I applied for myvanity call in 1998, N5YT.
I am active on most HF bands. Also I get on 2 meters for the DX information net and the weekly emergency net.
